X-ray

X-ray
The X-ray department is staffed with one certified X-ray technician. It has the capability to do both plain table and upright x-rays. X-rays may be ordered for any part of the body, but most often:
  • CXR = Chest X-ray
  • OPG = Panoramic mandibular X-ray
  • Waters = Maxillary X-ray, to view the lower orbits
  • Axio-Lateral Oblique = To view temporal-mandibular joint (TMJ)
  • Orthopedic X-ray of varying body parts

Occasionally, ward nurses or translators may need to accompany a patient to the X-ray room.

Patient X-rays are kept in the ward on a clip on the foot of the patient's bed.  The files by patient number after discharge.

Ultrasound

There is an ultrasound machine on the ship that is available to aid the physicians in diagnosing patient problems.

CT Scan

In every outreach, there are complex patients that require CT scans to accurately assess and evaluate their condition before surgery. We have recently installed a CT scanner on board the ship. We might help the local hospitals with CT scans as well as using it for our own needs.
